Welcome!
Upupo-Soft© is glad to present a full-featured video-sharing server solution based
on the Community Server© (CS) platform from
Telligent. For those who are unfamiliar with this
platform we suggest taking a look at the
Community Server website for more information about
this great software for building online communities.
The idea behind Upupo-Soft
Video Sharing Server (VSS) for CS is very simple – to let users share their videos
in the easiest way. It’s like using a standard CS Photo application plus YouTube©-style
video streaming. From a technical point of view the solution consists of two key
components. The first is the CS Media application, which in terms of features and
capabilities is an analogue version of the standard CS Photo application but focused
on processing video. The second is the standalone upload and video conversion services.
Together, these two components provide a full-featured video sharing solution based
on Community Server©. Let's have a quick look at the features and capabilities the
solution provides.

Description |
|
Media/Video application |
The application is based on the standard CS
application. This means it is 100% compatible with CS 2007 and 2008 code
and it has all the features you would expect from CS photo galleries and
controls. The application includes all the same groups,
galleries,
posts and
quotas of CS but has additional video-specific functionality. What’s
more, you can upgrade any existing CS-based community to have full support
for Flash (flv) video streaming and
content management. |
|
50+ video formats supported |
Upupo-Soft video sharing server supports 50+
video formats. VSS takes any video and converts it to Flash flv format with
optimal quality/size |
|
Fast and reliable video uploads |
To make the upload process as easy as possible,
two upload options are available.-
From your web browser with our
web upload component. This provides more functionality
and reliability than standard CS - resume for uploading, progress bar, web
farm support, etc.- Using
stand-alone
media upload manager application which provides the same user experience
as any download manager but tailored to the file upload process. |
|
Multiple options for video streaming |
By default Upupo-Soft VSS supports
Red5
(Open Source Flash Server). Optionally it could be used with
Adobe Flash Media Server, or
Wowza, or with simple flv-streaming applications for IIS or Apache. |
|
Great scalability and performance |
Upupo-soft VSS has been designed to function
in large web farms containing thousands of video files, when millions of
users may watch a single video. While CS provide great performance and scalability
options for online communities, VSS add additional scalability with the
ability to separate CS web servers and media streaming server farms. |

Multiple upload jobs
|
Upupo-Soft media upload manager supports an unlimited number of
simultaneous upload jobs.
|
|
Smart processing for users’ video files
|
It is no secret that raw video files (such as DV format)
are huge. Typically, the 5-minute video you get from your video camera or
your video editing software might have a file size of 1Gb. Media Upload
Client will convert all video to flv format and then start the upload of
a fully prepared file to your CS community website. This file could be over
10 times smaller than a raw video file. Also, Media Upload Manager will
ensure your video is optimized to provide the best viewer experience.
|
|
Better reliability through
state management of upload jobs
|
Media Upload Manager is designed to work via slow and unreliable network
links, survive computer crashes, and other environment issues. Once a user
creates an upload job, the server will remember the state of each upload
and resume the upload process if it is interrupted for some reason. |
|
Easy content management for
media posts
|
Media posts are created together with upload jobs. They include common
post information such as
subject, description and tags.
|
|
Media Quota support
|
Media Upload Manager can find out whether a user has any quotas on media
galleries and shows how much video storage space the user has left.

Even more flexibility with CS URLs
|
Sometimes it is useful to have URLs such as
http://username.your-community.com/ for each user of your CS community
website. We provide this feature in addition to an engine to support other
specially crafted URLs. This feature requires wildcard DNS support for your
domain.
|
|
Video
thumbnail management
|
When a video is posted to the media gallery it is identified
with a thumbnail picture created from the first frames of the video file.
We provide user functionality to change the default thumbnails though an
easy play-and-choose process.
|
|
"Video reviewer" theme for CS blogs
|
This provides convenient and quick access to all videos mentioned in the
blog. Have a look at Reviewer Theme Demo blog to see it in action.
|
|
Extended media and user statistics
|
We realized that video posts need more specific statistics.
For example, you might need to know exactly how many times your movie was
viewed rather than how many times a post with your video attachment was
shown. Statistics might be affected by the embedded code of your movie or
if it is played on some other site. Also, it might be useful to have separate
statistics for each community user concerning video, comments on video,
etc. Since standard CS does not have all this we have added more features
to provide these types of statistical data.
